ABOUT BBNS

BUILDING BLOCKS, CHILDREN PLAYING, MIDHURST, BARRIE, NURSERY SCHOOL, PRE SCHOOL
Welcome!

Located in Midhurst Ontario, just 5 minutes outside of Barrie, Building Blocks is a non-profit nursery school that provides today’s families with an affordable option for their children to learn through interactive and independent play, indoors and outdoors at its own playground.

We believe that it is important for children to learn preschool skills through play and interaction with other children and our experienced staff. Children will gain confidence in a social setting by interacting with other children, following routines, exploring and sharing in a new and encouraging environment while making new friends.

In addition to promoting a positive self-concept and a desire to learn within each child, the varied activities of the nursery school are designed to:
  • Provide opportunities for friendship and learning how to get along with others;
  • Encourage self-care as much as possible (e.g. managing outdoor clothing, putting away toys, etc.);
  • Increase basic understanding and experiences needed for formal schooling and future life situations;
  • Develop powers of reasoning, problem-solving and memory;
  • Broaden vocabulary and listening skills to enable the child to better communicate thoughts to others;
  • Develop self-control through firm but gentle guidance;
  • Improve large motor co-ordination and small muscle manipulative skills.
Building Blocks Co-operative Nursery School Inc. is a licensed Child Care Centre with the Ontario Ministry of Education.

What is a "Co-operative Preschool?"
The preschool is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, which consists of parents with children currently in the program. Like you, they want the best for their children in an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and comfortable. Our staff members are qualified RECE teachers.

Because Building Blocks is a non-profit preschool, we rely heavily on volunteer participation. With the help from all of the parents, the support of the community, government grants and fundraising we are able to provide quality educational experiences keeping the costs to a minimum. Throughout the year, parents are asked to play an active role in the learning sessions their children are exposed to.
